Sew West 2010

We are back from a wonderful weekend at the Sewing and Crafts show in Abbotsford, BC and are gearing up for our next show! Sew West is a new show being held at Bingemans, 425 Bingemans Centre Drive, Kitchener, Ontario on Friday, April 30th and Saturday, May 1st, 2010. Here is a link to their website with more information:
http://sewfestwest2010.blogspot.com/

This is looking like it will be a wonderful show with all sorts of very interesting workshops and vendors.

According to the show's blog here are Ten Reasons to Attend SewFest West 2010!

1. It's a sewing, fibre arts and needlework show. No shammies, no garlic crushers, no cheap watches, no tooth whiteners, no weight-loss machines and no pots & pans.

2. It's inexpensive. Only $5 admission gets you into the exhibit hall. Admission is included with class registration.

3. Snack bar in the show area gives you easy access to reasonably priced beverages, lunch or snacks, and you don't miss the action.

4. ATM is on site. So if you forget to drop by the bank, you still have access to cash if you need it.

5. Parking is free. While it may be a bit of a drive for some of you, at least you don't have a parking fee to pay when you arrive.

6. Bingeman's Funworx is open if your spouse wants something to do with the kids while you take a class or attend a seminar. Visit www.bingemans.com for information.

7. Clean, bright and roomy washrooms. Yes, there may be line-ups at the busiest times but they won't last long.

8. Bingeman's has wheelchair accessibility: An important consideration for those who use mobility devices.

9. A wide selection of classes to take throughout the day. Click on the classes links to the left or visit www.joannescreativenotions.com to register online.

10. Kayla Kennington, our feature celebrity is literally the Creme de la Creme of fibre artists, educators and garment designers. Visit www.kaylakennington.com for a sneak preview. Quilters, embroiderers, beaders, seamstresses and designers will all be amazed at her showpieces. Be sure to register for a class or see her fabulous slide show and presentation.

We are bringing all sorts of goodies and bargains galore! I am really looking forward to meeting some of our West Coast Customers and hopefully will be able to entice all the BC quilters to have a visit to our website: http://www.sew-sisters.com/.

Don't worry everyone else Jeannie and Sandy will be in all weekend to help you - be sure to drop by and say "hi"!

Today we received two new Stonehenge Collections: Stonehenge - Celebration Metallic and

I Love 1930s Repros...How About You?

I have a confession...I love 1930s repro fabrics and 1930s quilts. To me they are just what a quilt "should" look like - universally appealing, fresh and cheerful. I have used them a lot over the years. One of my favourite patterns to use with the thirties prints in the quilt as you go string quilt "Simon Says" - great easy pattern and truly lovely when made up!

Click here to purchase the pattern online:

Coming up in September (but you can register now) we will be starting an Ode to the 1930s block of the month program.

Ode to the 1930's provides a wonderful opportunity to explore and create 42 traditional quilt block patterns assembled within a sampler quilt that is sure to become a family heirloom! The quilt combines machine piecing with appliqué for a stunning combination. The Quilt finishes 67”x 82”. Blocks finish 3”x 3”, 6”x 6”, 9”x 9” and 12”x 12”. This is a twelve month block of the month program you will be billed a $25.00 registration fee then $24.95 per month for twelve months.

And the Winner Is...

The winner of this year's grand prize in the Easter Egg Hunt is Cathi Godwin of Toronto Ontario!

Cathi was so excited to be the winner and she blogged all about it! Cathi writes a wonderful blog detailing her handquilting adventures with her faithful companions Smudge and Lester and the recalcitrant Mr. Q.O. It is well with a little visit - her work (all by hand) is exceptional!

Here is a little sneak peak of her work:
