Fundamentals Sew Along - Week 48

Hi Everyone:

We are on the final stretch with only 5 more blocks to make.  Won't it be fun to put them all up on the design wall to see how they look together?   I can't wait!

This weeks block is called Broken Star.  It has a similar layout that we have been seeing in the last few weeks.  Making Block segments and then assembling them in three diagonal strips.  The first step is to attach the small square colour # 1, to 2 triangles colour # 2 (see picture below).  Make 4 of these.
Block Segments

Next, make 4 flying geese segments using fabric #1 small triangles and fabric # 3 triangles.

Flying Geese Segments

Sew these two segments together.  Make four of these.

Block Segments

Layout with fabric #1 square and piece together.

Segment Layout

Layout with fabric # 1 large triangles and sew into pieced triangle segments.  Make 2 of these.

It's Day 4 of Blogathon Canada!

Is it Day 4 already? Wow, time flies when you're having fun eh?

Today we're heading to Quebec and Manitoba to meet our host bloggers.

Marika is from Quebec and blogs at Live, Laugh, Love... Sew. Marika began to quilt a few years ago and has already accomplished so much in such a short time. Like her blog title her work is youthful, fresh, modern and fun.

Our host blogger from Manitoba blogs at Church Avenue Quilts. Heather clearly has two great passions - her quilting and her dogs - and you'll find that both have an equal prescence on her blog. Hop on over to meet Heather and check out what her fabric addiction has led to.

Fundamentals Sew Along - Week 47

Hi Everyone:

I hope you are all enjoying the Indian Summer that we are having.  I find it difficult to get my head around Christmas with this spring like weather.  If I was smart I would be putting my outdoor decorations up before the temperature drops below freezing.

This weeks block is called Centennial.  It is another block that we will assemble in diagonal rows  First fold your small squares in half both ways so that you will be able to centre your triangles for piecing.  (See Photograph below).

Centre Triangles on Square

Sew triangles on two sides of the square kitty corner to each other (NOT across from each other).

Triangles Pieced To Square

Sew  the rectangle  to the unit that you just made.  Press.  Make 4 of these.

Set two of these block segments aside.  Sew the other two segments to opposite sides of your large square.

Centre Block Segment
Sew  the other two segments to the remaining triangles. They will become larger pieced triangles.
Pieced Triangle

Layout your three block segments and sew them together.

These are your finished blocks!
