Inspiration for Sesqui Leaf
When I was asked to design a block for The Canadian Sampler quilt, I immediately thought of one of Canada’s most recognized symbols – the maple leaf. The leaf design in my block is simple to make and can be arranged in many different ways. I chose to make 2 red leaves on a white background and 2 white leaves on a red background and arrange them as shown here. After you make your 4 leaf blocks, I encourage you to have some fun and come up with your own unique arrangement of the leaves within my Sesqui Leaf block.
Thank you to everyone at Sew Sisters Quilt Shop for including me in this great project in honour of Canada’s Sesquicentennial celebrations!
Sign up for The Canadian Sampler and make this gorgeous quilt to Celebrate Canada's 150th Anniversary!
Registrations for The Canadian Sampler starting July 2017 are now open.

Judy Baldwin from Sew Sisters Quilt Shop
I started quilting when my oldest son was an infant. I wanted to make him a quilt as a keepsake. Armed with a copy of the book Quilting For Dummies I made a Sampler Quilt for him. After that I was hooked!
I jumped in with both feet and started a mail order company, Sew Sisters Quilt Shop, with my sister. In 2007, we opened our bricks and mortar store and that passion for quiltmaking has never died down!
Outside of quilting, I am married, have two teenaged sons and a spunky little dog. We reside in Toronto and are avid Raptors fans.
Inspiration for Flying Goose
In Southern Ontario, nothing marks the changing of the seasons like the migration of the Canadian Geese. Each spring the geese return to have their chicks and spend the summer. As the weather starts to change and the leaves fall in the autumn the geese fly away again. This beautiful Flying Goose Block evokes this uniquely Canadian occurrence.
