All Operations Ground to a Halt...

Well we received a panel today that was so cute that all operations ground to a halt while Jeannie and I studied it and tried to figure out what to do with it! This is the Paper Dolls Panel from Blue Hill Fabrics and I am totally smitten!

Here's what we came up with so far:

1. Make a traditional paper dolls set by fusing the panel onto a backing fabric and cutting out the dolls and clothes - stay stitching around the edge would probably be a good idea. I thought that putting velcro on the doll and the back of the clothes would be a good idea - Jeannie thought it would spoil the old-time fun of the tabs -- then she came up with the idea of putting a bit of velcro on the tabs!
2. Make a little wallhanging with the dollie appliqued to a background and then have the clothes there ready to put on the dollie (with velcro).
3. Make a whole quilt with each of the dollies in her own square - then put a pocket on the quilt and put all the clothing in there!
4. Jeannie wants to make a traditional quilt using all the bits and pieces but her ideas are still percolating.

You can order yours for 9.99 using this link: Paper Dolls Panel (the panel is 23" x 43").

Three Dimensional Flowers and When Isn't a Cheater Panel a Cheater Panel?

Peggy Kwan, one of the most original quilters I have ever met, is back teaching two classes this spring.

The first one is a terrific class that lets you turn a "cheater panel" into a work of art. This class is terrific for beginners or for anyone looking for something new and interesting. Peggy will give you a panda panel and then show you how to transform it using applique, beading, thread painting and other exciting techniques!

The second is her trademark three dimensional or origami flowers. Peggy has just completed another exquisite sample and will be teaching three gorgeous origami flowers in a five session class!

Color of the Year...Can You Guess What it Is?

The Pantone Color Institute has announced its color of the year...Turquoise! Pantone colors are the standard numbers and colors used in graphic design and publishing and we art school types always fantasize about owning a full set of pantone markers.

According to Pantone: turquoise combines the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green. Turquoise inspires thought of soothing, tropical waters and a comforting escape from the everyday troubles of the world.

Further, because it has both warm and cool undertones, Turquoise pairs nicely with any other color in the spectrum. Turquoise adds a splash of excitement to neutrals and browns, complements reds and pinks, creates a classic maritime look with deep blues, livens up all other greens, and is especially trend-setting with yellow-greens.

To read all about the color of the year please visit the pantone site: http://www.pantone.com/.

What will you do with turquoise this year?
