Monika on the Runway!

Monika was one of the models for Sandra Thomas' Trunk Show at the Pieceful Night Quilters Guild. It was a fantastic show that presented many of Sandra's wonderful garments this is ablock party vest if my memory seves correctly? Doesn't she look gorgeous - I need to be careful or the Ford Modelling agency is going to take her away from our shop! " This stunning picture was taken by Katherine Coddington who is also a guild member! "Pieceful Nights" is a wonderful community guild with about 40 members that meet at Armor Heights Church near Avenue and Wilson in North Toronto. Its a terrific group so if you are in the neighbourhood give us a call and we'll get you in touch with them.

When not on the runway Monika has been working on her version of the On Block Wonder from the book by Maxine Rosenthal! If you would like to try out this terrific technique Cheryl Smith will be teaching it at the shop - why not join her for the class?

Meanwhile I have been busy with my Quilt Patis... my Zen tumbling blocks are progressing nicely ... this class is running on January 24th and there is still room for more people if you are interested in learning a quick and easy way to tackle English Paper Piecing...

Yesterday we had our first class with Peggy Kwan in beginner Machine Applique (Quilt As You Go Technique). It was a small group and we all made a tonne of progress. I was so obsessed with my own block that I forgot to take pictures during class - I'll make up for that next time...but here is my first block. It is based on the Ohio Rose pattern from Eleanor Burns' book Applique in A Day.

I am making my quilt with super bright batiks for a very special 3 year old friend of mine - she is a real firecracker so I felt like it had to be bold! Peggy says that she is happy to take latecomers in the class and that they won't have trouble catching up - so if you would like to join us we will pro-rate your class fee. Just drop in or give us a call at 416 633-8800.

We have all sorts of new book titles for 2008!

My new favorite are the Aranzi Aronzo books: Fun Dolls and Cure Dolls.

The style of Aranzi Aronzo has been described as kawaii, meaning Japanese cute; using expressive mascots, Aranzi Aronzo has effectively created a colorful cast of characters featured in the books. If you love Tokyo modern or a Daiso aesthetic than this is the groovy new books for you!

This book by Aranzi Aronzo is filled with patterns and instructions for crafting more than 20 brand-new whimsical characters. Full-color, oversized pictures and easy-to-follow instructions accompany each project, including directions for making Lizard, penguins and the ultimate bad guy doll ... Kidnapper.
