A Resolution ... Broken Down Already

Well on Sunday I promised to finish a project everyday this week...it didn't last at all!

I Have just finished Monday's project which is the baseball pillowcases.

Lest you think I have been totally shirking ... I have advanced several things closer to completion so I believe I will still do seven things this week...if not one everyday!

Meanwhile we have some gorgeous Lantern Moon Needles...the Sock Stix on sale for 15.60 -- these luxury needles retail for 26.00 per set!

They are 5" double points made specifically for socks. They come in a bright plaid organza bag! They are a luxurious gift and they knit like a dream!

Now, I'm off to finish yesterday's project!

Finished Goodies...and More to Come!

Well this has turned into a week of finishing things! We counted inventory -- *phew* that's a great job to have finished. Monika finished the most scrumptious receiving blankets you could ever feel. The fabric is double sided Minkee so all we had to do was bind the edge. We used a slightly wider than average binding and voila...2 blankets in the span of 2 hours.

Next I finally finished my two pairs of little socks...I used the self striping Cotton Joy from Needful and they are very comfy (at least according to Davey). During the summer Sock Club will be held Tuesdays from 1:00 - 3:00 so grab your knitting (doesn't have to be socks) and join us for an afternoon of knitting and chatting. Hilma will be there to answer all questions...she'll even teach you how to make socks if you haven't before!While we were on a roll finishing things I decided that I would finish one project every day for a week! This may seem impossible but if they are small things I think I can do it. I started with these pillowcases. One for DAvey and one for Conkerr. Isn't the gnome fabric adorable it is from Northcott and we have lots left in the store. So that's today's project already completed. Tomorrow I will make two more ... this time using baseball fabric for my older son. I have so many UFOs to choose from ... I'll have to get organized for the rest of the week!
Finally we have the ruler racks I bought at the Hamilton Guild Show in the store for only $11.99 ... aren't they wonderful?

Community Service Day ... Charity Quilting

Rona Kleiman popped by the store this afternoon to pick up quilts and knitted blankets for Project Linus . I am very proud to say that we had two giant bags filled with quilts for her.

Project Linus is a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization. Its mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth, and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need, through the gifts of homemade, washable quilts, blankets, and afghans, lovingly crafted by volunteer blanketeers.

Sew Sisters collects your handmade items and sends them on to Project Linus where they are distributed to children in need. You can drop off your contributions at any time. Visit the Project Linus website to learn more about this wonderful organization and for free patterns to use in making your quilt, blanket, or afghan.

On July 15, 2008 from 10:00 to 3:00 Sew Sisters Quilt Shop will be having a Community Service Day. Bring your sewing machine and thread if you can, and join us to make quilts for Project Linus and Pillow Cases for Conkerr! Even an hour of your time would be a great contribution!

We will provide all the fabric as well as the instructions to make quilts for charitable donation. This will be a day of friendship, fun and accomplishment -- we hope you will join us! If you wish to make pillowcases we will give a 30% discount on fabrics purchased for that purpose..just ask for details.

Quilts in Bloom Show + Sock Club

This weekend Sew Sisters will be at the QUILTS IN BLOOM QUILT SHOW which is the Hamilton Quilter's Guild Show. The show runs Friday 10-8pm Saturday 10-5pm at Ancaster's Marritt Hall, 625 Garner Rd East Sunday 10-3pm.

There will be a great display of quilts, a member's boutique, a vendor's mall and a tea room for you to enjoy .... please drop by the booth and say hello!

Can't make it to Hamilton? Hilma will be in the shop all day to help you out! This afternoon sock club meets from 12:30 - 3:00 ... bring your knitting for an afternoon of stitching and socializing away from the heat! Sock club is an informal gathering of knitters and Hilma is there to answer any questions or help you along with your project. We haven't set a permanent time slot for Sock club but for the month of June we are knitting Friday afternoons.

I also wanted to draw your attention the Conkerr Cancer organization. This wonderful group

has a clear mission – To make life brighter for children with life changing illnesses and injuries. What they do – making bright cheery pillowcases for sick children – is not very fancy … but it is guaranteed to put a smile on the face of a sick child and to bring comfort to a frightened mom or dad.
